The waiting game
When you ask your toddler a question, stop and wait for the answer before jumping in to help. Sparing this time to wait is so simple in concept but so hard to do! Newly verbal children need lots of time to process their thoughts and verbalize a response. If they know a parent will answer for them, they are less likely to do the hard work of formulating their own answer. Give them a chance—it'll be worth the wait!
