Sit still, it's story time!
Reading to your toddler introduces him to new words and conveys the importance of books and literacy. Some toddlers, however, are too busy exploring to sit still and listen to a story. There is no “right way” to read to your toddler and you should not force it—reading should be fun and enjoyable. To get the most out of your shared reading experience try to make time for reading every day, establish a regular reading routine and let your child set the pace. Feel free to jump around the book, keeping your child’s attention span in mind. Add gestures and funny sounds. And—even if you have read it dozens of times—allow your toddler to choose the story. Relax and enjoy the time together!
