One, two, buckle my shoe
Mother Goose and other collections of nursery rhymes are rich resources for math literacy. They offer many rhymes having to do with counting. Remember "One, two, buckle my shoe" or "Ten little soldiers standing in a line? Find nursery rhymes or other number poems, perhaps your favorites when you were younger. As you read them aloud to your child, act them out with your fingers. Try to make up number poems of your own, such as: One, two, three, four [your child's name] is at the door; five, six, she plays tricks; seven, eight, numbers are great!
