Numbers, Numbers Everywhere
Math for preschool children focuses on counting and number recognition, shapes, and basic concepts of less and more. At home, strengthen these preschool math skills by stocking your child's reading supply with counting books and by practicing rote counting. Turn rote counting into a game by counting steps out loud as you walk. Point out numbers on gas pumps, in grocery aisles, and on food packaging; and play a game to see who can be the first to find a specific number. Look for educational toys that have numbers, or transform the toys you already have into counting toys by counting stuffed animals, tires on cars, or rooms in dollhouses. Incorporating counting into your daily routines will help strengthen preschool number learning.
