Chapter books provide a wonderful opportunity to read to your child with little to no visual input. While picture books are also wonderful, chapter books allow your child to make his own pictures in his head. He will have to work harder to comprehend the story without the aid of pictures. This hard work will help him develop strong reading comprehension skills.
