Inference is one of the most important aspects of thinking in all of mathematics. Inference is the deriving of new information from old information with logical certainty. Help your child develop his inference skills with a number guessing game. Write down a number from 1 to 5. Tell your child: "I have a secret number. Your job is to figure out what it is. The number is between 1 and 5." After your child guesses a number, tell him whether it is too high, too low or just right. Encourage your child to figure out the number from the clues rather than to guess at random. Raise or lower the boundaries as appropriate.
