First graders should continue to use lined handwriting paper which reinforces correct letter formation. If your child still struggles with the sizing of upper and lowercase letters, this trick might help. Highlight the area beneath the dotted line—where most lowercase letters go—with a highlighter marker. You can also purchase or print out pre-highlighted handwriting paper. It's useful for teaching cursive, too.
