Counting on Halloween
Halloween gives kids a chance to exercise their imaginations, and it provides lots of opportunities for practicing math skills, too. Prompt your child to count up the pumpkins for sale at a farm stand or the ghostly lights decorating your neighbor's porch. After trick-or-treating, kids can count the candy they acquired, or sort them into categories and then count up the different types. Ask questions such as "Which pile has the most?" and "Did you get the same number of these candies as those?"
