Bang the drum
Listening to rhythmic clapping or drum beats is a good beginning in helping toddlers recognize one-to-one correspondence and patterns. Count out loud with your toddler: One hit on a drum makes one sound, two hits makes two sounds. In this way, activities with music can help provide the foundation for learning how to count. Musical activities can also help children learn to recognize numerical patterns. (Shh, don't tell your toddler, but this is the start of algebra!)
