Monster math

Solve these math problems, then build a monster based on the answers!

Learning Stages

Print this monster guide with math problems for your child to solve. When each problem is solved, ask your child to design the monster. Suggest that he think about the monster before he begin drawing—it’s  important to develop a plan so you don’t create a tiny head that needs 5+5 teeth!

This project encourages higher level thinking skills and provides children the opportunity to use math skills to create a product. Stretch a few years down the road and you’ll find the same skills are used in everyday experiences. You can try this activity again by creating new math problems. Next time, give the monster 1+1 heads and watch your child use division to distribute 4 eyes and 8 teeth!

You can also get crafty and use different textured fabrics and other art supplies to make your monster unique.
