My child is confused by skip counting. Why is it important?

Skip counting teaches children to count numbers in groups or bunches. Skip counting skills help children learn about place value, times tables, and mental math skills. Leapfrog has many products that help children learn skip counting including the“Scout & Friends Numberland” DVD and the Math Adventure to the Moon Video App. You can practice skip counting at the dinner table with The Multiples, unique dinnerware that uses storytelling to help make skip counting fun and interesting to young children (http://usa.themultiples.com/). Books like “Count by Fives” by Jerry Pallotta and “Arctic Fives Arrive” by Elinor J. Pinczes are another great way to teach skip counting.
