Why does my son act out the same stories over and over?

While it may be frustrating to parents, repetition helps children learn. When your son acts out or reads the same story over and over again, it helps him better understand the storyline and become more familiar with the ideas and vocabulary in the story. Repetition helps your son anticipate what comes next in the story, which makes him feel secure and gives him the feeling that he has mastered something. It also allows your son to participate in story time, even if he cannot read on his own. So as difficult as it is for you to listen to or read the same story over and over again, try to encourage story repetition, and give your son the opportunity to predict what’s next and ask questions.
