Learning Stages

Strum up your child’s interest in music by helping him make his own box guitar. We made ours using an old Leapster box!

Cut a hole in one side of the box and then decorate it. Place rubber bands around the box, positioning them over the hole. Space the rubber bands evenly, ordering them from widest to narrowest. Once the rubber bands are in place, have your child pluck each one. Talk to him about the different sound that each rubber band makes: Which band made the lowest sound? Which one made the highest sound?
