Use small household objects to teach your child the different number combinations that add up to 10.
- 10 small items (such as buttons, pennies, shells, etc.)
Give your child 10 buttons and ask her to count them. Say, “There are 10 buttons in all.” Next, have your child group the buttons in as many different combinations as possible to make 10. Talk about his combinations: 5 buttons + 5 buttons = 10 buttons, 3 buttons + 7 buttons = 10 buttons and so forth.
