The dance
Several decades ago, Jill and Peter de Villiers wrote a book on language acquisition that described interactions between mothers and their infants as a dance. If you think about your interactions with your baby—you smile, he smiles; you tilt your head, he tilts his head; then you laugh and he bursts into peals of laughter—it is easy to picture this as a dance. This leading and following is teaching your child much about social interaction, not to mention the beginnings of conversational rules. What a dance! LeapFrog toys, including Scout, Violet and the LeapReader family of reading systems, help set the stage for your child’s understanding of the rules of language. And Scout and Violet not only encourage your child’s social development through questions and responses, but they provide a personalized exchange to strengthen connections and keep your child engaged and excited about discovering the world around him.
