While emerging readers will be eager to move from book to book, take time to have your children read easy books in order to work on fluency. Fluency is the speed and accuracy with which one reads. Good fluency leads to good comprehension. Start by reading books with younger children to provide the opportunity for them to read easier text aloud with you. Help them sound out the words if they need help. Eventually they'll be able to read on their own!
