Ask your child to say his name. Then say the sound, not the name, of the first letter in his name. If his name is Benjamin, say: Your name starts with the sound /b/. Let's think of words that begin with the same sound. The two of you may come up with words such as: big, boy, bat, ball, bear, Bill.  Encourage your child to add words to the list. Play the same game with other names that have different beginning sounds.
