Get the hang of patterns with this colorful cut-up craft.

  • Scissors

Learning Stages

Cut out a series of large and small circles, squares, triangles and rectangles from construction paper. Make multiples of each shape in every color, so that you’ll have enough to make a pattern. Then lay out your first pattern on the floor, such as big orange circle, small blue triangle, big orange circle, small blue triangle. Next, ask your child to continue the pattern. Take turns starting patterns and continuing them, experimenting with different combinations of sizes, colors and shapes.
