Snack time is the perfect time for addition practice.

Learning Stages

Use snacks, such as nuts, raisins or animal crackers to practice counting, skip-counting, adding and subtracting from 1 to 10.

Try this: Give your child up to 10 snack items. Ask her to count the items and write the number that stands for the set. Then have your child write as many different combinations of snacks as possible to make that number.

For example, if the number is 10, your child might come up with any or all of these combination sets: 1 and 9, 2 and 8, 3 and 7, 4 and 6, and/or 5 and 5.
