Use read aloud time with your child as an opportunity to develop mathematical literacy as well. When looking through picture books with your child, point out the countable items in the illustrations. (I count 3 pigs!) Point out that pages are numbered in order and they begin with 1. Wonder how many pages are in a book and then demonstrate counting each page. Book pages are numbered so we don't miss any of the story!
