Making friends
Like sharing and taking turns, your young child needs to learn social skills about friendship. Good friendship skills can help your child grow into a kind and compassionate person. To start, help your child to understand and discuss feelings. When you read a story, point out a character who feels happy or sad and ask what made the character feel that way. Then make it personal: What makes your child feel happy or sad? You can also start a dinner conversation about friendly contemplation. What qualities are important to being a good friend? What do you look for when choosing a friend? What are some examples of friends who exhibit those qualities? How are you a friend to others?
