This activity will help your child to become familiar with two important U.S. presidents and to recognize their images on coins. Read the biography information aloud to your child and provide a quarter and penny to attach in the spaces shown. Encourage your child to complete portraits of the presidents, copying their images from coins.

There is a great book called Grace for President, by Kelly S. DiPucchio that addresses this very question. The story is about a little girl named Grace who wants to know “Where are the girls?” when she is shown pictures of the presidents by her teacher. After learning that the United States has never had a female president, Grace decides she is going to be the first. Not only does this book inspire young girls, it teaches children about electoral system. You can use the book as a springboard to talk to your daughter about Hilary Clinton and other women who have run before her.
