I have tried playing some board games with my son, but he doesn’t play for more than a few minutes. Any suggestions?

Board games are a fun way to spend uninterrupted, quality time with your child. Most board games are made for children 3 years of age and older, since younger children are not developmentally ready to play games that require them to “play by the rules”. There are however, a few games designed specifically for children age 18-36 months, that don’t require players to follow a specific set of rules or take turns. For example, ThinkFun’s Roll & Play or Hello, Sunshine (www.thinkfun.com), or Aim High Games’ Let’s Potty www.lets-potty.com). Haba also has a series of simple board games for toddlers called “My Very First Games” (http://www.habausa.com/). While playing games, try to keep the focus on having fun and spending time with your child, and remember that his short attention span is developmentally appropriate for his age.
