Love Is Something When You Give It Away
Take the time and give your child the gift of an open heart and share how you decide to touch a family in need.
You're never too young to learn the power of giving. When LeapFrog asked our class to find someone to share gifts with, my students unanimously gave me that look that said, "Hellooooooo..... kids who need toys looking right at you, Mrs. Adams!" And then I began to ask a few questions:
"Raise your hands if you do not have any toys at home."
"Raise your hands if you do not have a home to go home to."
In that moment the reality that there is always someone in greater need hit close to home. They began sharing about their friends and neighbors who did not have some of the things that most people take for granted.
We decided to go on a search for an organization to give back to. We brainstormed about some schools, and families in the neighborhood (one student even suggested me: "You've got a whole lot of babies who need you!"). Then someone remembered hearing on the news about a school that had caught fire during the recent cold weather. Without a thought we unanimously voted to share the gifts that LeapFrog has donated to make their holidays brighter.
We sang a song that embraces the beauty of giving to others. Something so simple as a gift from the heart can make a difference in someone's life. I wonder what a difference your little one can make in the world? Take the time and give your child the gift of an open heart and share how you decide to touch a family in need.
