Odd word out
Skills
Help your child recognize words that rhyme.
Tell your child that you will say three words. Two of the words go together (they rhyme), but the third word won’t belong. Ask your child to tell you which word doesn’t belong. Say simple word groups, such as: fun, sun, dog; night, hat, light and moon, cake, lake.
This activity teaches your child to listen carefully to the sounds that make up words, which is an important first step in learning how to read.
