Encourage your child to build simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words from letters.
10 minutes
Gather all the letters of the alphabet using magnetic letters, foam letters, blocks or write each letter of the alphabet on an index card: a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y and z. Separate the vowels and consonants. Have your child pick a vowel and try to form CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words by sandwiching the vowel between two consonants, such as choosing the letter a and forming: cat, pan, tap, etc. Vary the sessions, concentrating on a specific vowel each time.
