The study of science begins with something that children have in abundance: curiosity. Science provides an opportunity for children to apply their natural enthusiasm to learning about the world.
Nature and outdoor environments are great spaces for young children to foster creativity, imagination and a developing sense of wonder. Nature offers children a ready-made environment for locomotor activities, for cooperative and dramatic play, and for interacting and investigating natural elements such as plants and bugs that children typically do not experience at school or at home. These activities can have both physical and mental health benefits. Nature also serves as a context for learning about and observing natural science and the world around them.
This week, encourage campers to observe, ask questions and draw conclusions as they explore and investigate the world around them.
Observing weather is an easy way to learn about the patterns of nature. Encourage your camper to look for repeating cycles and think about how the earth’s atmosphere and climate interact.
