Learning Tip: Keep peer pressure at bay with role play

Role playing is a constructive way to prepare your child to deal with situations that challenge him to stand up for what is right. Come up with scenarios in which he has to go against the group. Ask your child to act out ways to respond to the situation in a positive way:

Can you help your friends make better decisions?
How would you react to someone who is bullying you or one of your friends?

Help him think of ways to resolve the problem. Use puppets or other figures to role play. Teach by illustrating positive responses rather than finger-wagging or placing blame.
