Learning Tip: Busy, busy world

Weekend outings with your child do not have to be elaborate. Just take a walk with your child and use the time to talk about what you both see.

Stop by a construction site and look at the pulleys, tractors, cranes and wheels. How does the crane work? Why is the scaffolding there? This building doesn't have walls. Do you think they will build walls for it?

Check out the words displayed on street names, advertisements, store windows and road signs. Talk about the symbols and colors used in place of words. Consider all the different people and vehicles you see.

Once you have returned home, talk about what you have seen. Your child will heighten his powers of observation and gain practice in describing the world around him.
