Provide opportunities for your young reader to read to a younger sibling or child, and they'll both reap the reading rewards.

A fluent reader can read rapidly with good comprehension. As your child gets older, the material she is expected to read and comprehend becomes more complicated, making fluency more important with each passing school year. Reading aloud to younger children provides a low-pressure way to develop fluency.

If your child does not have younger siblings to read aloud to, try setting up reading times with neighbors, young cousins or other children at her school. The little ones will love it and your child will get the opportunity to feel like the reading expert!
