Getting Started
What is the Leapfrog® Learning Path?
A: The LeapFrog Learning Path is a free online tool at leapfrog.com that lets you, the parent, see your child's learning progress with LeapFrog products. For the first time ever, you can get regular insights into the skills and activities your child is engaging with during play, share in your child's successes and map out what's coming next.
What kind of information can I see in my child's Learning Path?
A: When you link one or more of your child’s LeapFrog products, you will see:
- Insights into the skills your child is learning while playing with those LeapFrog products
- A roadmap to learning and cognitive development that is custom-tailored to your child’s age, play patterns, skills and interests
- Ways for you as a parent to support, celebrate and expand your child’s learning
If your child plays with LeapFrog Connected products, detailed play data can be gathered and sent up to your account to form your child’s Learning Path, empowering you to:
- See the new educational skills your child is working on while playing with the LeapFrog Connected product
- Know when your child has successfully begun working on skills that are above his or her current grade level
- See examples of the questions your child is engaging with during play
- View play details that include, for example, the products and related skills your child is spending the most time with
Is the LeapFrog Learning Path for me or my child?
A: The LeapFrog Learning Path is designed for parents. By providing you with insights into your child’s accomplishments and offering a variety of fun tips and learning activities, the Learning Path offers excellent opportunities for you to connect with your child over learning.
How do I create a Learning Path?
A: You can create your child’s Learning Path in three easy steps:
- Create or sign in to your LeapFrog account. Creation of a LeapFrog account requires that you provide a limited amount of information, including your name, email address, and a unique password. Signing in requires only your email address and password.
- Set up your child’s footprint by answering a few brief questions, such as your child’s first name, grade level, gender and age.
- Tell us what LeapFrog products your child is playing with, or, if you own LeapFrog Connected learning systems, follow the wizard in the LeapFrog Connect Application to link them to your child’s Path. Not all LeapFrog products are part of the LeapFrog Learning Path.
Do I need a LeapFrog account to create my child's Learning Path?
A: Yes, you will need to create a free LeapFrog parent account by providing a limited amount of information, including your name, email address, and a unique password. It is our desire that only you, as the parent holder of this account, will be able to view your child’s Learning Path information. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for tips on how you can help protect the privacy of your account information.
You already have a LeapFrog account if you have previously created an account through any of the following:
- The leapfrog.com website
- Any LeapFrog Connected product
How do I access my child's Learning Path?
A: You can access your child’s Learning Path from any PC or Mac. Simply use your email address and password to sign in to your LeapFrog account at leapfrog.com. If you own a LeapFrog Connected product, you can also access your child’s Learning Path through the included LeapFrog Connect Application.
Do I need to own LeapFrog products to create a LeapFrog Learning Path?
A: Only LeapFrog products are supported on the LeapFrog Learning Path. Whether you have one LeapFrog product or many, the LeapFrog Learning Path provides valuable insight into your child’s learning. However, the more LeapFrog products you add, the more detailed and informative your child's LeapFrog Learning Path will be. Why? Because each product that you link informs the Learning Path of your child’s progress in different skill areas, painting a more complete picture of your child’s learning progress and enabling the Learning Path to recommend new skills to explore.
Can other people see my child's Learning Path?
A: Your family’s privacy is very important to us. For this reason, the Learning Path is only accessible after you have successfully logged in to your account with your unique login credentials. You should therefore keep your account information confidential at all times, and never share your password with anyone else. For additional tips on how you can help protect the privacy of your account information, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
What if I don't have a lot of time?
A: Whether you have 30 seconds or five minutes, the LeapFrog Learning Path is designed to be meaningful to every parent. Visit the At-a-Glance page for a quick summary of the skills and products your child has been most recently engaged with. Click the stones in the Path view for a deeper understanding of these skills and where they fall on your child’s learning journey. If you have LeapFrog Connected products, the Play Details page offers the most in-depth information, from time spent playing each activity to the number of hints your child used.
The LeapFrog® Connected Experience
What are LeapFrog Connected products?

A: LeapFrog's new line of LeapFrog Connected products connect directly to your computer, enabling valuable play data to be sent up to your account and form your child's Learning Path. LeapFrog Connected products currently include the Tag™ Reading System, Leapster2 Learning Game System and Didj™ Custom Gaming System.
These LeapFrog Connected products come with a USB cable and the LeapFrog Connect Application, a software application that auto-launches each time you plug your child’s product into the computer where it was installed. The LeapFrog Connect Application manages the transfer of rich, detailed learning and play information to your account, forming the child’s Learning Path and empowering you to:
- See the new educational skills your child is working on while playing with the LeapFrog Connected product
- Know when your child has successfully begun working on skills that are above his or her current grade level
- See examples of the questions your child is engaging with during play
- View play details that include, for example, the products and related skills your child is spending the most time with
I have LeapFrog products, but not Connected products. Can I still create a Learning Path?
A: Yes. Almost all current LeapFrog products are part of the LeapFrog Learning Path, and they do not have to be Connected to provide valuable insights into your child’s learning. Although you will not be able to get detailed learning progress updates from Leapfrog products that do not have a USB connection, you can see the following through your child’s Learning Path:
- Insights into the skills your child is learning while playing with LeapFrog product(s)
- A roadmap to learning and cognitive development that is custom-tailored to your child
- Ideas to help you support, celebrate and expand your child’s learning
What is the LeapFrog Connect Application?
A: All LeapFrog Connected products come with the LeapFrog Connect Application, a software application that launches each time you plug your child’s product into the computer where it was installed. Once installed, the LeapFrog Connect Application manages the automatic transfer of rich, detailed learning and play information to your account, forming your child’s Learning Path. It also provides you access to:
- Your LeapFrog account information
- Your child’s Learning Path
- Upload and download content associated with your Connected product, such as book audio for the Tag™ Reading System and customizations for the Didj™ Custom Gaming System
- A safe online environment in which children can redeem rewards and explore additional content
How often should I connect my child's learning system to the computer?
A: Connect often. Every time you plug your LeapFrog Connected product into your computer, you are updating your child’s Learning Path and ensuring that your child’s online rewards are up-to-date. Connecting is simple—just plug the USB into the computer that has your LeapFrog Connect Application installed.
How often is my child's Learning Path updated?
A: Every time you plug your LeapFrog Connected learning system into the computer that has the LeapFrog Connect Application installed, your child's most recent play data is sent up to your account and forms your child's LeapFrog Learning Path. Once this data is processed (typically within five minutes of upload), your child's Learning Path is updated and the new play details are made available for you to view when you are logged in to your parent account. Please note that during times of heavy traffic, it may take up to 30 minutes to process your child's most recent play data.
I haven’t connected my child’s learning system to my computer in a while. Now, some of the rewards and play details seem to be missing. What happened?
A: If you do not connect your child’s learning system to your computer frequently enough, the memory on the device can become full, preventing the storage of additional play and rewards data. Be sure to connect your child's learning systems to the computer that has your LeapFrog Connect Application installed often so that your child's Learning Path is kept up-to-date.
Using the LeapFrog® Learning Path
What is my child's "footprint"?
A: When you create your child’s Learning Path, you will be asked to set up a footprint for your child by entering a few details, such as your child’s first name, grade level, age and interests. This information is used to create a unique Learning Path that is tailored to your child’s needs.
You may also see a footprint icon placed next to specific skills on your child’s Learning Path; this icon indicates that your child is actively engaged with these educational skills on his or her LeapFrog Connected learning system.
What are my child's "play details"?
A: For LeapFrog Connected products, play details are based on data collected from the product the last time you plugged it into the computer that has your LeapFrog Connect Application installed. Play details vary by product, but they can include valuable information such as time spent playing specific activities, the challenge level your child has reached, the specific questions your child has answered, the percentage of questions answered correctly, the number of hints used and more.
How do I update the products on my child's Learning Path?
A: There are two ways to update the products on your child’s Learning Path:
1) If your child has a LeapFrog Connected learning system, simply install the included LeapFrog Connect Application on your computer, plug the product into your computer with the USB cable and click Link Player Profiles in the application. Once you have linked the player profile(s) to a particular child, any games, books or software that that child uses will be automatically added to his or her Learning Path.
2) Products do not have to be Connected to enrich your child's Learning Path. To add other LeapFrog toys or non-Connected products, click on My Account, login, and then click on Footprints. Then, click the Link New Products button to add non-Connected products to your child’s footprint. To remove products your child is no longer playing with, click the box next to the product’s name to deselect it.
Where can I go online if I'm having trouble with my child's Learning Path?
A: For frequently asked questions or to contact LeapFrog customer support, visit our Customer Support site.
Understanding Your Child's Learning Journey
Is the Learning Path assessing my child?
A: The LeapFrog Learning Path is not an assessment tool. Rather, it is a way to participate in your child’s learning experiences, to see and support your child’s engagement with LeapFrog learning and to celebrate your child’s accomplishments. LeapFrog’s educational experts and advisors believe that engagement with skills is more important than the individual “scores” your child achieves during play. What’s important is the time spent in educational gameplay, getting right answers AND wrong answers, and having fun while learning.
What does it mean if I see a dip in correct answers?
A: For some LeapFrog Connected products, the Learning Path is able to report the percentage of correct answers a child has earned during play. Remember that correct answers don't tell the whole story. A dip in correct answers might mean:
- Your child has been advanced to a higher level, where the questions are more challenging.
- Your child is deliberately selecting wrong answers because he or she finds the wrong-answer audio or animations amusing.
- Your child is experimenting with wrong answers—simply to explore the whole game or because he or she has already mastered the game and is ready for a new challenge.
How can I tell if my child is struggling with a subject or skill?
A: Try the following:
- Visit the LeapFrog Parents section of leapfrog.com and print and play learning activities that are related to the skills your child is working on. Use them as a gauge and source of insight.
- Pay attention to patterns in your child’s correct answer and wrong answer reporting (located on the Play Details page of his or her Learning Path). If there is a consistently high percentage of wrong answers associated with a set of skills, this may be evidence of an area where your child could use some help.
- Look at the percentage of wrong answers in relation to the number of times your child used the Hint button on his or her learning system during play. This relationship may also suggest areas where your child could use some help.
What does “Super Engaged” mean?
A: A child's engagement is measured based on the time he or she spent playing a specific book or game and the progress shown in the skills it introduces. “Super Engaged” is the highest level of engagement.
How does the LeapFrog Learning Path select the products it recommends?
A: As your child progresses along the LeapFrog Learning Path, you will see that the stepping stones and skill stones on his or her Path fill with color to show what skills or subject areas your child has had an opportunity to explore. Stones that are still white represent skills that your child has not yet encountered with LeapFrog. The LeapFrog Learning Path recommends age-appropriate products and activities that extend your child’s learning progress in both the skill areas your child is currently engaged with and skills your child may be ready for next.
How can I support my child's learning journey?
A: The LeapFrog Learning Path gives custom-tailored recommendations for products and activities that complement or extend your child’s learning progress. Visit LeapFrog Parents for more learning ideas, printable activities and parent-friendly information to help you reinforce the skills your child is learning. Don’t forget to check the blogs or check in with other LeapFrog Parents, as well, in the Community section of leapfrog.com.
