Play!
One of the most important aspects of children’s lives is play. In the view of present-day scientists, “Play is a central part of neurological growth and development—one important way that children build complex, skilled, responsive, socially adept and cognitively flexible brains” (Robin Marantz Henig, “Taking Play Seriously,” New York Times Magazine, February 17, 2008). For parents, this translates to the importance of respecting and treasuring your child’s play even if you don’t understand it. Play is fundamental!
