How are you feeling?
When reading stories or watching TV, talk to your child about the emotions of the characters. Take the opportunity to name emotions that you and your child encounter together. For instance, if a character is having trouble reaching a goal, comment about how frustrating that must be. Also, ask your child to name the emotions of the characters based on what they see. "How do you think he feels?" is a great way to start the conversation. Not only are you giving your child important language for discussing emotions, but you are also helping your child develop empathy at an early age.
