Learning Stages

Not all children are interested in the president of the United States, but almost all will be intrigued and entranced by the thought of a presidential pet! Make a scrapbook of presidents and their pets—past and present. If possible, use photos you find on the Internet, or draw the pets.

You might also ask your child to write a story about a presidential pet—from the pet’s point of view! Use the Internet to find “pet data” to make a bar graph illustrating the presidents and their pets. Did more presidents have dogs? Cats? What about fish? Any other unusual pets in the White House?
